The Civil Rights and Social Justice Society (CRSJS) is a dedicated human rights NGO registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific, and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955, in Kerala, India. Founded in 1997, CRSJS stands as a beacon of hope and justice for those facing human rights violations, especially victims of police atrocities in Kerala.

CRSJS Leads Kerala’s Fight for Justice: Support for Iron Sharmila and the Repeal of AFSPA
CRSJS Secretary Mr. R Jayachandran speaking at the Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign function in Thiruvananathapuram, Kerala, in support of Ms. Iron Sharmila Chanu’s iconic twelve year old hunger strike demanding the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Manipur State.
CRSJS was the State Coordinator for Kerala for the Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign. The then leader of Opposition, Kerala state, Mr. V S Achuthanandan (former Chief Minister) inaugurated the campaign at Gandhi Park, Thiruvananathapuram, the capital of Kerala State.

Our Unique Funding Policy
Since our founding in 1997, CRSJS has adhered to a strict policy of self-sustainability. We depend solely on funds from our members and do not accept contributions from non-members or external funding agencies. This commitment ensures our independence and integrity in every action we take.
Key Focus Areas
Police Atrocities: Actively addressing and fighting cases of police misconduct across Kerala.
Awareness Campaigns: Conducting regular seminars, workshops, and community programs to spread knowledge about human rights.
Legal Aid & Financial Support: Providing free legal aid and financial assistance to victims of human rights violations.
Notable Initiatives
- Youth for Human Rights International – India (YHRI-India): CRSJS partners with YHRI to host the annual International Walk for Human Rights in Thiruvananthapuram every World Human Rights Day (December 10th).
- Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC): A proud supporter of this nationwide movement advocating for justice for Ms. Irom Sharmila, the renowned Manipuri poet and human rights activist.
- Rajiv Gandhi Literacy Fund (RGLF): Managed by CRSJS, this fund provides financial support for the education of underprivileged children, empowering future generations.

A Commitment to Justice
